Kathmandu valley Sightseen offers you most imortantly following reknown places which are listed in WORLD HERITAGE LIST BY UNESCO in 1997. These places belongs to three cities such as Kathmandu, Patan (known as lalitpur - city of arts) and Bhaktapur (oldest city of valley) that form a single Kathmandu Valley.

 

- Swoyambhu Nath Stupa :

One of the well known touristic site in Kathmandu which resides on the hilllock hence the site provides magnific view of kathmandu city and the surroundings. Swoyambhunath or simply Swoyambhu is one of the most important and sacred pilgrim for the Buddist around the globe.

 

According to Swoyambhu Puran , long time ago the valley was a lake once Manjushree, prominent saint from China visit the place and he cut the southern hill of the valley to drain all the water hence the valley was inhabitable. So, to pay hommage to him a temple is palced on the southern hill of the Swoyambhu Nath Stupa.

 

 

- Pasupatinath (Temple of Lord Shiva)

One of the holiest place for Hindu where Lord Shiva is the prominent God. Two most important festivals like Shiva Ratri ( Night for Lord Shiva on february ) and Teej (festival for hindu women on August ) are celebrated in the premise.On visiting this site you could see a two golden roofed pagoda style temple are Shiva where foreigners are resticted to enter however you could profit the live cremation that takes place near the bank of holy river Bamati. Similarly , walking up to the hill you will enjoy the view of whole Pasupati area and will encunter the Babas / Sadhus who may call you for pictures.

 

 

- Boudha Nath ( Second largest Stupa of the world)

Boudha Nath is also another holiest pilgrim for the Buddhist around the world. The largest stupa is surrounded by monastries and other commercial building. this site provides you completely different ambiance of tranquility.

 

The Stupa is also known as dew drop stupa. According to one of the most popular legend, during the constructions of the stupa the nation was suffered by drough hence to bulit the stupa during night people laid the shawls on the ground to collect the dew and early in the morning each and every shawls were squizzed to collect water from them. So this is how they built the stupa. Hence, the name dew drop stupa is given. While Buddhist call it as Jhyarung

Khasyura.

 

- Kathmandu Durbar Square

UNESCO listed site Kathmandu Durbar Square  is one of the three Durbars ( Royal palaces) of Kathmandu valley located in the capital city, Kathmandu. Its one of the most  visited site which is the live museum of the Nepali  architectural arts and crafts. This  Durbar Square is also named as Hanuman Dhoka Durbar , the name is derived from a huge a statue of a Hanuman ( known as monkey god who was  great devotee of lord Ram) at the entrance for the palace. The plaza is adorned  by different  temples , courtyards or chowks built by Malla and Shah dynasty kings of Nepal . The beauty of this place is enhanced by the Kumari  House  where living goddess , Kumari resides . Similarly, huge stone statue of Bhairab is also installed there as a protector of the valley.

 

- Patan Durbar Square

UNESCO listed site Kathmandu Durbar Square  is one of the three Durbars ( Royal palaces) of Kathmandu valley. Its one of the most  visited site which is the live museum of the Nepali  architectural arts and crafts. The plaza is adorned  by different  temples , courtyards or chowks built by Malla and Shah dynasty kings of Nepal  and another specialty of the place is Shikhar Style  Krishna Temple completely made of stone having 21 golden pinnacle. The beauty of this place is enhanced by Patan Museum  where you could spend hours to learn Nepali arts and crafts. Furthermore , you could just walk around to explore more by visiting
- Golden Temple ,a  Pagoda Style Temple of Buddha as an outstanding  and beautiful example of metal art of Nepal ,.
Kumbheshowr , a five storied Shiva Temple and Banglamukhi Temple.
- 1000 Buddha Temple , a replica of the Buddha temple in Bodhagaya and many more Buddhist monasteries built in Newari Style.

Its one of the most  visited and preffered  and well preserved site which is the live museum of the Nepali  architectural arts and crafts.. The plaza is adorned  by different  temples , courtyards or chowks built by Malla and Shah dynasty kings of Nepal. Furthermore, Bhaktapur owns the tallest temple of Nepal called Nyatapol , a five storied temple . Here, beside architectural beauty you could enjoy the culture of people,  you could try out pottery at pottery square.
